Meet our Friend, Meng Hieang

26th March 2021 by Min Yee

Meng Hieang came to the Centre on the 20 April 2002. He was introduced to the Centre by another NGO. During his stay here, he was a very good boy. He came in with his older sister. His mother was a single mother then.

He is well liked by both the staff and his peers. He graduated in 2012 with excellent results. In the same year, he told the entrance exam for medical study. Unfortunately, he did not pass. He was determined to study medicine and decided to study to prepare for the next exam in the following years. The church continued to support him as he prepared for the next exam. He also studied French during that time as Medical study were taught in French in the Government University. The following year he was successful in passing the Entrance exam to study Medicine in the Health Science Institute of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces.

He graduated in December 2020 and is now doing his internship in the government hospital.

Meng Hieang FB post.

My very first gratefulness to the journey I’ve been is to you, my dear Father in heaven. As I’ve looked back and marvelled how far I had come, I didn’t wonder how I made it. I already knew the answer. Only with your help had I powered through. For without your strength, I could do nothing. My heart just keep thanking you and thanking you. I’m touch beyond words for your faithful promise to me.(Isaiah55:11)📃📓

🙏🙏I also want to show my gratitude to my beloved parents យ័ន សារ៉េន who’ve been so supportive, loving and caring to me. Thank you for a precious birth that you have chosen to this grown up boy.

🙏🙏🙏🙏Sending my forever appreciative and thankfulness to my adoptive parents on earth and spiritual in God; Uncle Foo Shuan Sai Sonny and Aunty Chew Wai Kim whatever you have done in my life I could never thank you enough. You are truly amazing parents ever. Thank you for believing in me, cherishing me, disciplining me, uplifting in me in the way that this earthly parents could never give. May God’s blessing continue to overflow to you and your household.

🙏🙏🙏👬🤪To all the people whom being surrounding me with love and care are to the one whom I call friends. You guys are awesome. I enjoy every moment with all of you in bad and good times. To walk this path together is absolutely a perfect and spectacular will of God. Thank you for being there for each other. God bless you.❤️🙏   (Original from his FB with permission)

Edited version by Kim.

Above all, I want to thank my dear Father in heaven for the wonderful journey I have been through. As I look back, I marvel at how far I have come. I often wonder how I made it. But I already know the answer. Only with the help of my Father in Heaven have I powered through. For without His strength, I could do nothing. My heart is overflowing with thankfulness to my God. I’m touched beyond words for His faithful promises to me.

“So shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.” Isaiah 55:11

It was while I was still living in the Centre that I accompanied a sick child to the hospital. There I looked upon the patients, and God moved me with compassion for them. I knew that my desire was to be a doctor.

God worked in so many marvellous ways to confirm and realise His calling in my life. It has not been an easy journey these 7 years in Medical School, but the Lord has surrounded me with His love and favour. I stand today as a testimony of His goodness and faithfulness. His word has been and is still being accomplished in my life. And I give Him all praise and glory!

December 2020 Update

6th January 2021 by Min Yee

Thank you very much for partnering PKH in bringing hope and help to the poor and needy in Cambodia. Your prayers and support through the years have made a difference to many young lives. Please click on this link for the update on our work in 2020.

Covid-19 has caused us some difficulty in these past months.  However, the grace of God is surely and evidently sustaining us, and it has brought out the best in some situations.

For 2021, PKH hopes to reach a total of 500 young people with tangible expressions of God’s love, mainly by providing them with education and vocational training.  The work will be carried out at an estimated cost of USD250,000 (SGD325,000).

We would be grateful for your continued prayers and support for this mission work of St Andrew’s Cathedral. For more information, please visit http://pkhcambodia.org, email pkh.cambodia@cathedral.org.sg or phone +65-63376104.

With gratitude and best wishes for the New Year from all of us here in PKH //

Operations at PKH during COVID19

1st August 2020 by Min Yee

Following the advice from the Cambodian government, all PKH vocational training, English classes and before-and-after school care activities continue to be closed.

PKH Trainers

2 of our expatriate trainers, Lim Wei Inn & Joyce Carino, have returned safely to Singapore on 21 June and 22 July, respectively. They continue to keep in touch with their students through WhatsApp chat.

New E-Learning Programmes

PKH introduced new ways of engaging the children and youth during this time. New TV monitors have been installed at PKHES and PKH Trang, so that the village children can benefit from Khmer and English e-learning programmes.

As PKHES is located within the grounds of Kampong Speu Orphans Centre (KSOC), PKHES has started a pilot project to teach English to 25 of the KSOC children in small classes of not more than 10, using these e-learning programmes.

Setting up and testing the new TV monitor at PKHES

PKH Trang has also started to teach 50 of the village children each day, in small classes, using the same programmes. We hope that the children will find these programmes beneficial, as the teachers use them to enrich their classes during this time.

Upkeep of the Centres

The staff and trainers at PKH have been working hard to continually maintain the grounds, and we attach some photos of the work below.

PKH Staff (Chandy, Kim Hun, Piseth and Sang Khoem) fogging at PKHES and all 3 PKH Centres.

PKHES Teachers, Buntheourn and Sopheap, helping with grass cutting and clearing at PKH Chbarmon.

At PKH Trang : Soy and Sang Khoem, with some Trang boys, replacing new vinyl flooring for Staff Rooms. Before-and-after photos of rooms with new flooring.

New stoves being fitted at PKH Trang; Stoves tested and working well!

After all the hard work, the PKH Staff Team and Teachers take a well deserved tea break on the freshly cut grass. [From left: Piseth, Kim Hun, Sopheap, Chandy, Buntheourn, Joshua (Chandy’s son) & Soriya]

And a special treat of Singapore Laksa made by Susan & Joyce, for everyone at PKH.
